Steve Smith’s salute says it all

SportLocation Cricket Desk · 14 Sept 2026

Steve Smith raises bat and helmet to the crowd in a straightforward celebration, then keeps the acknowledgement going as he turns away.

Steve Smith gives the crowd the full salute here: bat up, helmet lifted, and no rush to hide the moment.

The opening frame is the cleanest read of it, with Smith facing front and holding both pieces of kit high as the stands blur behind him.

As he turns side-on, the gesture stays the same. The bat remains aloft, the helmet drops lower, and the acknowledgement becomes a slow walk rather than a quick pose.

From behind, the shirt name and number are visible as he keeps the bat raised overhead. It is a simple cricketing gesture, but one that leaves no doubt about the innings he has just finished.

He finishes still carrying the bat high, the sort of small, direct celebration that belongs to a batter who has done the hard work already.
