Ayrton Senna and the fine margins of Formula 1 racing

SportLocation Formula 1 Desk · 28 Sept 2026

Two cars run side by side as others thread through the bend behind them.

Ayrton Senna’s name is closely associated with Formula 1, but the drivers in these images are not identified. What the sequence does show clearly is a defining test of racing craft: keeping a car alongside a rival without surrendering the line.

The view opens out over a winding circuit, with cars arriving at the bend in a staggered line. Then the focus tightens on a red-and-white car and a dark car running level. Neither has cleared the other; both hold their ground as the track carries them onwards.

That is the detail to watch. On a circuit that appears wet, positioning matters: overlap leaves little room to alter course, while backing out would concede the space. The cars remain side by side, and the following pack keeps the corner busy.
