Dorian Yates on making every training session count

SportLocation Fitness Desk · 17 Oct 2026

Dorian Yates describes a method built around heavy, intense training, short sessions and enough recovery between workouts.

Dorian Yates’s approach, as he explains it here, is concentrated rather than sprawling: heavy weights, very intense effort and sessions lasting around 45 to 50 minutes. The footage gives that idea a physical shape, moving from exertion on resistance equipment to a close view of Yates gripping machine handles.

The point is not simply to lift hard. Yates links that intensity to recovery, warning against training so much that the body is denied enough time to progress. Effort and rest are presented as parts of the same plan: stimulate the muscle, then give it time.

That balance is the useful detail in the clip. The brief session is not described as an excuse to do less, but as a way to focus the work—and to leave room for the body to respond.
