Jay Cutler’s front-squat go-to

SportLocation Fitness Desk · 28 Sept 2026

Cutler’s exercise sequence saves its top-ranked movement for last: a front squat he calls one of his favourites.

The sequence works towards one lift. After a run through leg curls, cable work and other gym exercises, Jay Cutler takes a bar across the front of his shoulders for a front squat. An on-screen ranking puts it at number one.

That finish has a point beyond the countdown. Cutler calls the front squat one of his favourite exercises and describes it as a go-to movement in pursuit of the Mr Olympia title. His explanation keeps the focus on the training choice, rather than presenting the lift as a spectacle for its own sake.

The front-loaded bar position makes this final exercise visually distinct from the earlier machine work. It also gives the sequence a clear conclusion: a movement Cutler valued enough to place at the top of his own list.
