Jay Cutler sharpens the line in the side pose
SportLocation Fitness Desk · 12 Sept 2026
Jay Cutler’s gym sequence is at its best when he turns from a front stance into a tighter side flex, using the twist to show shoulder, arm and abdominal detail.
Jay Cutler spends this gym sequence doing what bodybuilders are judged on most: changing the shape of the body from one pose to the next.
The front stance gives way to a side-oriented flex, with one arm behind the head and the torso tightened so the shoulder, arm and midsection read as a single line.
That shift matters because it changes the emphasis. The front pose is broad and square; the side pose narrows the frame and makes the waist and obliques part of the picture.
With the dumbbell racks running along the mirror wall, the setting stays plain and functional. The interest is in the control of the pose, not the room around it.
Cutler finishes by holding the side position long enough for the shape to settle, which is exactly what the sequence asks for.
