Samson Dauda and the work of the lowering phase
SportLocation Fitness Desk · 4 Oct 2026
A heavy dumbbell curl draws attention on the way up, but the lowering phase completes the movement.
Samson Dauda holds a heavy dumbbell close to his torso, lifts it towards his chest and lowers it again. The repetition is easy to read in the upward movement; the return is just as much a part of the curl.
The weight moves beside his body as his torso inclines, then drops towards the bottom of the frame. Across the sequence, a voice urges him on: “Come on again, then. Go, go, come on.” It is a small detail, but it keeps the effort grounded in the rhythm of a gym set.
There is no need to make this one lift stand for more than it shows. It is a straightforward piece of strength training: one dumbbell, one curl, and a lowering phase that brings the repetition to its finish.
